Sophie Cohen

Sophie Cohen is an associate attorney with Cobalt LLP. She counsels clients with respect to their intellectual property portfolios and is experienced in trademark clearance, trademark and copyright registration, licensing, enforcement and policing, as well as internet law matters including domain name/UDRP disputes, privacy and website agreements.

Sophie has prosecuted trademarks domestically and internationally and has represented clients in front of the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. She also counsels clients with respect to complex and cutting-edge copyright issues such as DMCA compliance, works-made-for-hire matters, electronic rights and fair use.

In addition, Sophie's practice focuses on promotions law, including sweepstakes, contests and raffles, with a special expertise in the field of commercial co-venturing and charitable sales promotions.

Sophie is a French native and a member of the California and New York State Bars. She graduated from the Sorbonne Law School in Paris and received her L.LM. from the University of California in Davis. Sophie's professional affiliations include the Copyright Society of the USA and the American Bar Association. She is an elected member of the Executive Committee of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the State Bar of California and serves as the Section's Social Media Liaison.

Sophie is also vice-chair of the ABA-IPL Copyright Legislation Committee. Sophie speaks publicly on trademarks, copyrights and promotions and has been a featured speaker at the California State Bar's annual Intellectual Property Institute, the AIPLA Spring meeting, as well as PLI and CEB programs.

Sophie is a film and TV buff and is passionate about art, pop culture, and gastronomy. She's also a proud "sci-fi geek." When not in the office, she can be found browsing the latest art exhibit at DeYoung museum, gardening, wine tasting or playing with her iPad AND droid devices.
