D. Jeffery Grimes, is special counsel with the firm. Jeffery's practice focuses on business transactions and the needs of business entities of all sizes, as well as strategic counseling in the areas of intellectual property and dispute resolution. He has over 20 years of experience advising clients in the bio-tech/pharma, high-tech, financial services, real estate, and health-care industries.

Prior to Cobalt LLP, Jeffery was Vice President, Legal Affairs, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at Aradigm Corporation, a publicly-traded specialty pharmaceutical company focused on respiratory diseases, located in Hayward, CA. Prior to Aradigm, he served as Assistant General Counsel at Connetics Corporation, a publicly-traded specialty pharmaceutical company focused on dermatological disorders, located in Palo Alto, CA and Vice President, Corporate Counsel & Secretary of GN ReSound, Inc. and Beltone Electronics Corporation, both subsidiaries of a Danish-based multinational leading medical device company for hearing healthcare and devices. Jeffery was also an attorney in the Trademark & Brands department at Intel Corporation advising on trademark selection, clearance, and registration, due diligence regarding intellectual property rights in corporate transactions, negotiation and drafting of assignments, licenses and related agreements. Prior to becoming in-house counsel, Mr. Grimes was a commercial litigator for seven years.

Jeffery completed his undergraduate work as well as receiving his JD and MA from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is a marathon runner, an avid traveler, an expert skier, and dog lover.
