Barbara L. Friedman, is special counsel with the firm. Barbara's practice focuses on intellectual property counseling and dispute resolution. She has over 15 years of experience advising clients in the publishing, high-tech, financial services, health-care, and other industries in the adoption, use, and protection of domestic and international trademarks and copyrights. Barbara's experience covers trademark selection, clearance, and registration, UDRP domain name disputes, due diligence regarding intellectual property rights in corporate transactions, negotiation and drafting of assignments, licenses and related agreements, and the prosecution, defense, and settlement of disputes.
Barbara is licensed to practice law in the State of California and the State of New York. She is the former chair of the State Bar of California's Intellectual Property Section (2008- 2009) and prior to that served as the chair of its Copyright sub-comitteee for five years.
Barbara graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with honors, and received her JD, magna cum laude, from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York.
She has coached high school mock trial teams for many years (including coaching the Hillhouse High School team to the Connecticut state championship three years in a row), but these days when she's not in the office she can usually be found either playing with her nieces and nephews or at the Berkeley Rep, Mountain View TheaterWorks, Masquers, Broadway by the Bay, or A.C.T.
